The First Annual TigerHawk Invitational Cross Country Meet will be held Saturday morning, Sept. 14.

The Invitational has been in existence for 41 years, but with the whole-grade sharing agreement, this will be the inaugural TigerHawk Invitational.

The course will be the same as in the past, with the start and finish lines behind the elementary school.

The JV girls’ varsity will begin at 9 a.m. with the boys’ JV starting at 9:30 a.m.

Varsity runners start at 10 a.m. as the girls run a 4K; the boys take on a 5K course at 10:30 a.m.

Junior high runners also have a race, with the girls starting at 11 a.m. and the boys starting five minutes later.

There will also be a 1.5-mile Fun Run for coaches, parents and elementary school students starting at 11:30 a.m.

The top 25 varsity runners in each race will receive medals; JV runners win ribbons. There will be team trophies for the champions and runners-up.

Records for boys’ and girls’ races were both set in 2009, when Connor Smock of Mt. Vernon/Lisbon finished the boys’ course in 16:02. Wapsie Valley’s Katy Moen blazed across the girls’ course in 14:46.

Teams participating this season include, Cascade, Central/Elkader, Charles City, Clayton Ridge, Kee, Denver, Maq. Valley, MFL/MM, New Hampton, North Fayette Valley, Osage, Starmont, Tripoli, Turkey Valley, Valley Lutheran, Waukon, West Delaware, and Western Dubuque.

Last year Charles City was an easy winner in the boys’ contest and Cascade won the girls’ race.

There is no admission fee, and a concession stand will be open behind the elementary school.
