’67 North High grad dies in Nebraska

Ruth A. Bartlett, 64 years, of Fremont, NE died Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Arbor Manor in Fremont.  Ruth was born January 27, 1949 in Wadena, IA to George and Wilhelmina (Ohmann) Kelly.  

She grew up at Hawkeye, IA and attended North Fayette County Community Schools and graduated in 1967 from North High School in West Union. Ruth served in the U.S. Air Force from April 24, 1969 until Nov. 28, 1975 as a WAF, spending 1 year in Iceland.  She moved to Fremont in 1978.   She attended Metro Community College in Fremont and obtained an associate degree in computer science.   She was employed at Wal-Mart in Fremont and was a merchandiser  for American Greetings Card Company.

She was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fremont and belonged to the Ruth Circle, Stephens Ministry and served on several committees of the church including, secretary of the stewardship committee, secretary of the social membership committee, member of Christian Education Committee, a church council member, president of the Women of the ELCA Board and member of the 100th Salem Lutheran Church Anniversary Celebration and was secretary of the worship and music committees.

She is survived by daughters, Kristina & husband, Rodney Hashberger of Dodge, NE and Tiffany Bartlett of Toledo, Ohio; brothers, George Kelly, Jr. and Donald & wife, Becky Kelly of Hawkeye, IA and Robert & wife, Vicki Kelly of Decorah, IA; sisters, Karen Homewood of Sumner, IA and Linda Sigbornson of Omaha; 9 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Kelly and an infant sister.

Memorial service, 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fremont.  Pastor Michael Thomas officiated.  There was no visitation.  Military graveside services were conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post #854 and American Legion Post #20 at the church following services.

Memorials may be given Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Kidney Foundation and Nebraska Organ Recovery Systems.

Ruth was very patriotic and her wishes were for people to wear red white and blue to the service in her honor.
