North Fayette Valley started its first year of sports on Monday, Aug. 12, as football, volleyball, and cross country practices got underway.

The volleyball team kicked off the new era with practices from 7:30 to 10 a.m. The first NFV volleyball match will be held at Starmont on Thursday, Sept. 5.

While the official enrollment information from the state association will not be final until after Friday, Aug. 16, it looks as if the TigerHawks will compete in Class 3A for the playoffs.

Once the official figures are in, the Echo will list UIC teams and their classification for all fall sports. Also starting practice on Monday were the NFV cross country and football teams.

Cross country began running at 4 p.m., as the team prepares for the first meet on Thursday, Sept. 5, at Luana.

Football started its season with practices from 3:30 to 6:30. It will have two scrimmages before the season opener in Postville on Friday, Aug. 30.

The first is a very informal one with no game uniforms on Saturday, Aug. 17. The ninth-graders will take on the JV at 8:30 a.m., and there will be a varsity scrimmage at 10 a.m. These scrimmages will be on the practice field and are open to the public.

The annual Sports Drink Scrimmage is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 22 on Ron Wymer Field. Admission is any kind of sports drink, which is vital for the players’ hydration during the season.

The freshman will play the sophomores at 6:30 p.m.; the varsity scrimmage will follow at 7:30 p.m.

For just a sports drink,   fans will see the first edition of TigerHawk football and its new uniforms.
