Close points standings with 2 weeks to go

Simpson wins Corn Belt Clash

Chad Simpson increased his points lead as he won his fourth race of the season in the Corn Belt Clash on Friday, Aug. 9, at the Fayette County Speedway in West Union.

With the field of Late Models strung out, Simpson cruised to victory.

In the regular feature races, Allison’s Trevor Fecht won the B-Mods. Adam Cline of Decorah just beat West Union’s Justin Hanson to the checkered flag in the Hobby Stock feature. Lansing’s Danny Cole Jr. edged Dan Trimble of Fairbank in the Stock class.

With just two races left this season, there is some intense competition in the points standings.

Paul Seabrooke has a 74-point lead (538-464) over friend and fellow Elgin native Jerrod Torkelson.

Perhaps the closest races are in the Hobby Stock and 600 Mod-Lite classes.

Josh Ludeking and Steve Larson are neck-and-neck  in Hobby Stocks with Ludeking holding a 10-point edge in the battle of Decorah natives. Justin Hanson of West Union is only 32 points behind the leader.

The 600 Mod-Lite is even closer. Caledonia, Minn., native John Griffin has 291 points while New Hampton residents Cole and Chris Denner have 285 and 284, respectively.
