Clayton County to crown Fair Queen Wednesday

Five young ladies will vie for the title of Clayton County Fair Queen. The coronation will take place at 6:30 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, July 31) during opening ceremonies of the 159th Annual Clayton County Fair. 

Those vying for this year's crown include the following:

Darci Eberhardt is the 16-year-old daughter of Louie and Theresa Eberhardt of Elkader. This fall she will be a junior at Central Community High School in Elkader with plans to attend a four-year college.

She is a member of the Highland Helping Hands 4-H Club, in which she has held many leadership positions and is a member of the 4-H Green Team.

In school, Darci enjoys volleyball, basketball, track, softball, band, and serving as a class officer. In her spare time she likes to read, spend time with her pets, and spend a vast amount of time on Pinterest.

Darci is sponsored by American Family Insurance – Julie Doeppke of Elkader.

Jennifer Koons is the 17-year-old daughter of Jerry and Sheri Koons of Elkader. She will be a senior this fall at Central Community High School and is involved in chorus, volleyball, and track. After graduation, Jennifer plans to attend NICC in Calmar.

She is also a member of the Worthwhile 4-H Club, in which she currently serves as secretary.

Her hobbies include milking cows with her friends, working with fair animals, and spending time with family and friends.

Jennifer is sponsored by Stephanie Bruehahn of Elkader.

Amanda Meyers is the 18-year-old daughter of David and Julie Meyers of Volga and a recent graduate of Central Community High School.

While in school she was involved in volleyball, track, band, speech, FFA, chorus, piano, and was a basketball cheerleader and manager.

She is a member of the Highland Helping Hands 4-H Club, in which she has held various leadership positions and is a member of the 4-H County Council. 

Amanda is also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoys volunteering her time where needed.

This fall Amanda will be a freshman at Clarke University with a major in physical therapy. 

She is sponsored by Hertz Farm Management of Nevada.

Kaitlin Orr is the 17-year-old daughter of Tim and Sheri Orr of Elgin.

The senior was been a 4-H member for seven years and has been involved in FFA since eighth grade. Kaitlin enjoys sharing her knowledge on agriculture with younger children.

Throughout high school, Kaitlin has participated in basketball and golf. 

She is a member of Elgin Lutheran Church, where she has taught Bible school.

Her hobbies include spending time outside on the farm, sewing with her grandmother, reading, and volunteering.

Kaitlin is sponsored by Gual Ag Services.

Courtney Putz is the 17-year-old daughter of Paula Casper and Steve Putz of Edgewood.

She is a member of the Lodomillo Leaders 4-H Club, in which she currently serves as president.

The senior at Ed-Co has been involved in basketball, volleyball, golf, National Honor Society, FFA, Art Club, and Student Council.

Her hobbies include sports, gardening with her mother, farming with the cows, horseback riding, and crafts.

After high school, Courtney plans to attend college to study either greenhouse management or agronomy.
