Memorial service held for Gene Boese, 69

A memorial service for Gene Boese, 69, of Elgin, formerly of Postville, was held Friday, July 12, at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home, Elgin, with the Rev. Steve Brackett officiating. 

Inurnment was in the Elgin Cemetery, Elgin.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin, was in charge of arrangements.

Gene died Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union. 

Gene Boese was born Oct. 12, 1943, to William and Mary (Frimmer) Boese in Elkader. 

He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. 

He attended Postville schools through the 10th grade.

In October 1986, Gene married Shirley Holden.

He worked at area farms as a laborer. He also worked at the turkey plant in Postville and for the City of Postville. 

In his spare time Gene enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, spending time with friends, and watching Western movies. 

He was active in Full Circle in West Union and TASC in Waukon.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Shirley, on March 10, 2007; three brothers, Keith, Allen, and Kenneth Boese; two sisters, Florence Boese and Marion Reierson; and a great-granddaughter.

Gene is survived by his brothers, Merlin Boese of Waukon and Charles (Judy) Boese of Decorah; his children, Sandy (Danny) Blazinski-Prince of Oklahoma, Kellie (Brian) Hermen of Iowa, Lee (Kris) Holden of Texas, and Malvin (fiancée Birdie) Holden of Missouri; 10 grandchildren, Nicole, John, David, Meranda, Alisha, Noah, Krys, Desire, Shelby and Malici; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
