Former West Union man dies in Florida

John Leonard “Jack” Fencl, 69, of Palmetto, Fla., formerly of West Union, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

A committal ceremony with military honors will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery in Florida on Tuesday, May 28.

Born in West Union on Sept. 25, 1943, to Leonard and Marcella (Marty) Fencl, Jack had been a local resident for 25 years. 

A Viet Nam veteran, he was the recipient of a Bronze Star medal. Jack was retired from the United States Army as a master sergeant. He was active with VFW Post 9226 and American Legion Post 325, both in Ellenton, Fla. 

Jack’s parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include Cathy, his loving wife of 32 years; a son, John Fencl of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Amy (Jim) Clausen of West Union; three sisters, Judy Stevens and Joyce Landers of Paris, Tenn., and Jean Earle of Central City; and three grandchildren, Dalton, Trenton, and Madison.
