The city of Maynard has a new streets/water department employee.

West Central High School graduate Jason Puls, 32, is working with longtime Streets Superintendent Gary Reed until Reed's official retirement in June.

Puls was recently hired by the Maynard City Council to eventually take over for Reed, who has been with the City for 21 years.

Employed at Lifeline in Sumner for 13 years, Puls said he was ready for a change and, with young children just beginning school, welcomes the idea of being closer to home. He also appreciates being able to work outdoors after having been employed in a factory for more than a decade.

Jason and his wife, Kim, have two children; one will begin kindergarten in the fall, and the other will be enrolled in West Central's new preschool program.

Puls is attending classes at Kirkwood Community College, beginning this week through June, in preparation for acquiring his Wastewater I certification.
