Graveside services today in Oelwein

Graveside services for Robert A. Klemp, 83, of Fredericksburg will be held at 1:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein.

An open house in Robert’s memory will be held at 3 p.m. (after the graveside service) at Here’s 2 U in Fredericksburg.

Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein is handling the arrangements.

Robert died of natural causes on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Robert Arthur Klemp, son of Arthur and Elsie (Sall) Klemp, was born Feb. 21, 1930, on the family farm near Readlyn. 

He graduated from Reisch Auction School in 1951 and was a member of the National Belgian Horse Association. 

Robert was a retired farmer, auctioneer and horseman.

On April 11 1953, he married Beverly Ehlers; she preceded him in death. 

On Nov. 22, 1986, he married Mary Sassmann.

Robert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton.

In addition to his first wife, Beverly, Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a stepson, Mikel Sassmann.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; his children Denise of Cedar Rapids, Scott (Marlene) of Waucoma, and Parker (Joan Ault) of Randalia; his stepchildren Gregg (Paula) Sassmann, Joel Sassmann of Fredericksburg, Molly Sassmann of Carrollton, Texas; a stepdaughter-in-law, Colene Sassmann of Sumner; two granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-granddaughter; and two sisters, Marti Alberson and Helen Pavelka.

A memorial fund has been established in Robert’s name.
