W.U. Legion Auxiliary to host District Conference

West Union American Legion Auxiliary Unit 15 met Tuesday, March 19, at the Veterans Center with nine members present. 

After Jayne Soppe called the meeting to order at 6 p.m., the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble were recited.

Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved; the treasurer’s report was read and filed.

The Junior Girls Conference was held Sunday, March 17, in West Union with approximately 30 in attendance.

The District Conference will be held Saturday, April 6, at Echo Valley Banquet and Reception Center, West Union. Gus & Tony’s will cater the meal.

A hospitality reception will be held the night before from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Vets Center. Volunteers are needed to provide snacks. Also, help with registration, etc. will be needed on Saturday at the conference. Please contact Jayne Soppe if able to lend a hand Friday night or Saturday. 

Julie Schute shared the poppy poster winners with unit members. First place went to Lexi Ruroden, who also placed second at the Junior Conference; Brianne Roys won second place; and Creedance Sargeant earned third place.

Jayne and Dennis Soppe were among a group of 10 that went to Washington, D.C., to meet with U.S. Senators Tom Harkin and Charles Grassley and First District U.S. Representative Bruce Braley to discuss veterans affairs.

Members were reminded that the next county meeting was Tuesday, March 26, at Westgate.

The meeting was closed with the singing of “God Bless America.”
