Schott services held Monday at St. Peter

Funeral services for Kathy Schott, 67, of West Union were held Monday, Feb. 25, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado with the Rev. Ginny Olson officiating.

Interment was in the West Union Cemetery.

Burnham-Wood & S.K. Rogers Funeral Home in West Union was in charge of the arrangements.

Kathy died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo following a sudden illness.

Kathyrn Kay (Kamaus) Schott was born on Nov. 9, 1945, in West Union to Millard “Bud” and Erma (Friederich) Kamaus. 

She was baptized April 14, 1946, and confirmed Sept. 27, 1959, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in West Union. 

She attended country school at Dover No. 6 near West Union and graduated from North High School in West Union in 1964.

On Nov. 8, 1964, Kathy was united in marriage with Garry Schott at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in West Union. Three children were born to this union. 

The couple began married life in Sumner before moving to Garry's family farm near Clermont. During that time Kathy worked several jobs, including at Robinson's Dime Store and Traeger's Jack & Jill. In 1980 the Schotts moved to West Union, where Kathy went to work for Heying Enterprises and later Heying Foods. She then worked at Garvin’s True Value Hardware in West Union until her retirement in 1995, due to health complications.

Kathy was a lifelong member of area churches, including St. Olaf Lutheran Church, West Clermont Lutheran Church, and most recently, St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado. 

Kathy was a big Atlanta Braves fan. She also enjoyed cross-stitching and reading. She collected anything purple, her favorite color, and had an extensive collection of red cardinals. Her favorite music included that of The Statler Brothers and Randy Travis, along with Elvis Presley.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Curt Kamaus.

She is survived by her children, Troy (Judy) Schott of West Union, Todd (Sophie Phillips) Schott of Waverly, and Aimee (Troy) Abrahamson of West Union; grandchildren Stacie (Al Seamans) Schroeder, Corey Schroeder, Amy (Germaine) Liburd, Josh (Ashley Kuennen) Schroeder, Ben (Angie Watters) Schroeder, Sarah (Ryan) Rose, Courtney (Jaime Hageman) Schott, Tyler (Kinsli) Schott, Payton Schott, Brock Lyman, Abbie Lyman, Elreich Abrahamson, Warren Abrahamson, and Wyatt Abrahamson; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are her siblings, David (Jean) Kamaus, Don (Marilyn) Kamaus, both of West Union, and Barb (Henry) Miller of Fayette; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
