NF open house well attended

“I’m excited for what is to come,” said NF Principal Todd Wolverton as he opened the question-and-answer session for Valley students and parents attending the open house Friday at North Fayette.

Many of the Valley patrons took advantage of the open house to tour the West Union facility, meet teachers, and take part in the question-and-answer session.

Wolverton encouraged the Valley students to get to know the administration, staff, and students at NF, encouraging those in attendance to become acquainted with the NF website and Wolverton’s blog.

He pointed out that two of the biggest differences students will see in whole-grade sharing is the way grade-point averages are calculated and class ranking.

In the past, Valley students do not see plus or minus factored into GPAs and are ranked accordingly. As they make the transition, the plus and/or minus will be factored into the GPA although classes are not weighted.

The Valley students will have their current GPAs frozen and will move forward with the new formula.

“We at North Fayette do not and will not rank students within classes, either,” Wolverton added.

In the future a committee of 10 members, five from each district, will assemble to work on the details of Good Conduct and Attendance policies for the coming year.

The NF principal added that eight committee members will also be selected for an Honors, Awards and Recognition Committee.

After a short PowerPoint presentation, Wolverton fielded questions from audience members on open campus, early-bird physical education, course selections, dress code and how the tax dollars will be split within the separate districts.

Wolverton reassured patrons that the majority of the tax money raised within the Valley district will remain there, and the same will be true for North Fayette.

Valley is planning a similar open house geared toward 2013-2014 North Fayette Middle School students and parents at its facility on Monday, March 4. The event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m.
