Memorial service to be held Friday

Delbert Jr. Dean, 87, of Fayette died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013. 

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at S.K. Rogers Funeral Home in Fayette. 

Visitation will be for one hour prior to service time.

Following the service, inurnment will take place at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette.

S.K. Rogers Funeral Home in Fayette is in charge of arrangements.

Delbert Jr. Dean was born June 18, 1925, to Donald and Celeste Dean. 

He served his country in the U.S. Navy for four and a half years. 

Delbert worked at John Deere in Waterloo, where he met his future wife, Hila June Martens. They married Dec. 26, 1946, and began farming south of Fayette. In 1951, they bought the old Stepp farm north of Fayette. Delbert farmed until he sold the farm building and four acres in 2009.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hila; and his youngest son, Dennis D. Dean.

Delbert is survived by his three children, Danny D. Dean of Virginia Beach, Va., Darwin D. Dean of Fayette, and Denise D. Johnson of Spokane, Wash.; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Darlene Robinson and Barbara Gersema;

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association and Alzheimer’s Association.
