The West Union is having a Block Party and they want you all to come.

It’s this Saturday, Oct. 9, from 9 a.m., to 5 p.m., with all events taking place in the downtown area around the Courthouse Square.

“The big reason to come down to this Block Party is to support your local community. I say community because this goes beyond just our local businesses. This is supporting West Union as a whole. We have our businesses, our School District, our Police and Fire Departments, as well as our City Parks and Rec, all represented,” said West Union Chamber Director Matt Marsala.

According to Marsala, the driving force behind the event is to generate visibility for local businesses and organizations. “What started as a way to bring in more customers, has really turned into a community event, that I know our local businesses will want to continue each year,” Marsala pointed out.

He continued to say, “I personally am proud of these business owners and community leaders. West Union is an amazing place to live. My goal is to continue to foster its growth and help everyone succeed. We've seen some great partnerships and people reconnecting as a result of this project/event.”

The event will feature a “Shop Hop” to help get everyone to all of the West Union businesses that day.

Here’s how it works:

Each shop offers an in-store special, and a gift certificate. The customers receive a card with the shop’s names on them, the shop initials or stamps the designated spot on the card. The completed cards can be dropped off at any of the participating businesses prior to 3 p.m., and then there will be a drawing for gift certificates. Only customers that have all of the spots stamped are eligible for the certificate drawing. Door prizes will also be given away.

There will be over $650 in prizes and no purchase is necessary to win. It starts at 9 a.m. and is finished at 3 p.m.
