On Thursday afternoon at Guttenberg Golf Course, the South Winneshiek girls’ and boys’ cross country teams both put forth gutsy performances that resulted in the No. 2-ranked Warrior girls and No. 13-ranked individual Isaiah Kruckman both qualifying for State!

South Winn’s volleyball season came to an end Wednesday night, Oct. 20, on the road at No. 9-ranked Osage.

“The Green Devil offense came out strong and put a lot of pressure on us,” said coach Alex Smith. “Osage is ranked (No. 9) and is last year’s State championship team.”

A: I have lived in Ossian for 21 years and have lived in northeast Iowa since 1992.

Lee Kleppe

 

Lee A. Kleppe, 61, passed away on October 15, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. Lee Alan Kleppe was born June 1, 1960, in Postville, Iowa to Donald and Marlys (McNelley) Kleppe. Lee was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Ossian, Iowa. He grew up on a farm outside of West Union, Iowa and graduated from North Fayette High School in 1979.

Ronald Peters

 

Ronald D. Peters, age 62, of Copperas Cove passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, in Killeen. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Viss Family Funeral Home, 1614 S. FM 116, Copperas Cove, TX with inurnment at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Ron was born on January 21, 1959, in West Union, Iowa to William and Gladys (Pape) Peters. He graduated in 1977 from Valley High School in Elgin, Iowa where he played football.

After high school, Ron joined the United States Army in 1978. He served during Desert Storm and Desert Shield for a total of 15 years of service. While serving in Hawaii, he met Debbie Greaves and they married on August 25, 1979, at the Lutheran Church in Ewa Beach in Hawaii.

A theme to the North Fayette Valley boys’ season has been running as a pack. It was a valiant effort by all runners and coaches, but the 2021 North Fayette Valley cross country season came to an end last week.

Both the TigerHawk girls’ and boys’ teams competed at their Class 2A State Qualifier meet at Anamosa on Thursday. The TH boys just missed qualifying as a team as it took fourth, while the NFV girls were eighth. Neither team advanced any individual runners.

The TigerHawks are moving on! It came down to the wire Friday night, but North Fayette Valley was able to put away New Hampton by a score of 29-28 to advance in the playoffs.

“We don’t quit!” said coach Justin Heins after the big win. “Much like being down to Union, we just keep playing. We had to face some adversity with having to kick off at the start of both halves and with trailing late after not getting the two-point conversion, but we overcame  it.”
