Dillon Law firm purchases Traeger & Koempel in West Union

Dillon Law, PC  has purchased the former Traeger and Koempel (Alice Koempel) law practice in West Union. 

Alice Koempel was one of the longest practicing lawyers in the state. She died earlier this year.

Last week, I got the opportunity of a lifetime. I was fortunate enough to get Fayette County Newspaper press credentials for the first-ever Major League Baseball game in the state of Iowa. The game made national headlines and has been the local talk of the town, around most communities, as it was played on a field built near the Field of Dreams in Dyersville. Enjoy, as I share my first-hand experiences at the field and from the game.

Charges filed in string of burglaries

Charges filed in string of burglaries

 

Following an investigation into several burglaries and thefts throughout Winneshiek County, multiple juveniles have been referred to juvenile court services for offences related to felony burglaries, felony thefts, vandalisms, and possession of stolen firearms. Per 915.25 of the Iowa Code, the juveniles’ names will not be released.

Steve Schroeder set to take Pavilion stage

 

The seventh of eight live summer performances at the Ossian Educational and Performance Pavilion will take place on Wednesday, August 11, at 7:30 p.m. The vocalist, Steve Schroeder, will be featured for this live performance. The performance is sponsored by Bohr Builders and L & B Electric. 

Other events coming up in August include the final live performance, the Old Time Community Band, on  Wednesday, August 18 at 7:30 p.m. This live performance is sponsored by Becker Hardware. The final movie night and event of the 2021 Summer 2021 Performances at the Pavilion, featuring Little Giants, is set for Sunday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m.  The movie sponsor is Sundance Travel.

Memorial service for David Frieden

 

David Floyd Frieden of Swisher, IA, formerly of Elgin, 80, died July 16, 2021. A shared service for David and his brother-in-law, Edward Havens, will be held at Illyria Church in Elgin, IA on August 14, 2021.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with service following at 11:00 a.m. Please wear a mask. The service will be live-streamed at https://facebook.com/IllyriaChurch

Susan Nusz, age 78, of Ames, IA died on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Northridge Village following an heroic three-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. A visitation was held in Ames, Iowa on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at the Stevens Funeral Home in Ames, Iowa from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.  A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am at the same location.  A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Okeene, OK at 11:00 a.m. on August 14, 2021.  Visitation was held from 9:00-10:00 a.m. in the Church basement prior to mass.  Susan was laid to rest next to her husband Lawayne immediately following the service, at Peaceful Cemetery in Hitchcock, OK.

Randy Allen Lauer, 66, of West Union, was called home by our heavenly father on Sunday, August 8, 2021. He was born January 3, 1955 in West Union to Leslie and Frances (Wolfs) Lauer. He was baptized at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, West Union, and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran, Eldorado. Randy graduated from North High School with the class of 1973. After graduation he began farming and working for his dad running heavy equipment.

Randy was united in marriage to Connie Upton on March 15, 1975. One son was born to this union. He was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, West Union.

Randy loved his family, especially  his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons going to sales and teaching his granddaughter how to drive the uni loader and tractor. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog, Ted.
