Steven James Hermen, 68, of Elgin, Iowa died suddenly Saturday, August 14, 2021 at his home. Steve was born February 12, 1953 to James and Rose Ella (Chase) Hermen in Postville, Iowa.

Steven was united in marriage with Mary Landis on August 26, 1972 at Arlington Lutheran Church, Arlington, Iowa. Five children were born to this union, Jennifer, Brian, Bradley, Randy and Rodney. Steve worked for DX, Falb’s and hauled milk. He also drove semi for many years, including owning his own semi and working for Pattersons Trucking and Bushman Trucking. In the last few years, he was semi-retired while still working for Simple M Trucking in Monona, Iowa. Steve enjoyed camping, live music, mowing lawn and socializing with friends and family.

Michael Carl Lueder, 68, of West Union, Iowa died, Sunday, August 15, 2021 at his home. Michael was born December 19, 1952 to John Carl and Jeanette Anna (Springer) Lueder in West Union, Iowa. He attended North Fayette School and graduated in 1971. Michael was soon drafted into the United States Army, serving his time at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. 

Michael was united in marriage with Diane Streif. To this union three children were born. They later divorced. Michael enjoyed spending time with his dog, listening to his 60’s jams, driving his truck, farming and visiting his granddaughters. Michael was known to give everyone his opinion, if they wanted it or not, he was never wrong.

Karolin Jeanette Lehman, 89, of West Union, Iowa, formerly of Elgin, died July 19, 2021. A Celebration of Life for Karolin will be held Saturday, September 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Elgin, IA. Visitation will be Friday, September 3 from 4:00- 7:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at the Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, Iowa with Pastor Cody Cline as the Officiant.

Warnings over; Speeding violations issued!

West Union Police Officer Jessie Stanbrough and the rest of the Police Department want to make sure motorists know that the speed limits inside the city limits are being enforced through the use of cameras. Warnings over; Speeding violations issued!

The speed cameras on Highway 150 South and North Pine Street in West Union are now in full function mode and speeding tickets are being issued.

“In July we sent out 699 warnings,” remarked West Union Police Chief Paul Becthold.

It appears the warnings got the attention of motorists. So far this month, since motorists are now being issued tickets, the Chief said they have recorded 310 violations.
