The No. 7-ranked Anamosa Blue Raiders were as good as advertised. Tuesday night, July 6, North Fayette Valley made the trip south to take them on in the opening round of the Class 3A Region 6 playoffs.

Anamosa wasted no time in getting things going as some early errors for the NFV defense contributed to a seven-run first inning for the Raiders.

NFV takes postseason opener over Starmont

 

North Fayette Valley got the 2021 baseball postseason underway with a big, 12-2, win over Starmont on Saturday.

The Stars grabbed an early 1-0 lead, which it maintained through 2 ½ innings before the TigerHawks blew up in the third inning to score six runs.

Clermont’s Community BBQ in the Park will feature the sounds of Steve Schroeder, Monday, July 19, starting at 4:30 p.m., at Clermont City Park.

Schroeder, a native of West Union, was the opening act for Randy Houser when he performed at last year’s Fayette County Fair. Schroeder lives in La Crosse now. He’s a high school P.E. teacher and has been performing for about three years, and also writes his own songs. 

“I really never thought I would be doing this, but it’s definitely one of my passions now,” he related.

Elgin's Music in the Park & BBQ this Thursday

Area musician Beau Timmerman will be performing at Music In The Park and BBQ in Elgin, Thursday, July 15.

The Elgin Homecoming Committee, along with the help of the Elgin Fire Department, is hosting the event.

Members of the Elgin Fire Department will be in charge of the BBQ and grilling. The meal deal includes either hamburger/brat or hot dog, with chips, cookie and bottled water for $5.  BBQ serving time will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  

Timmerman will be playing at City Park from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The South Winneshiek softball team split its final Upper Iowa Conference games of the season and went 2-3 in its final week of the regular season. The end result was a 9-7 record in the conference, which was good enough to tie for fourth place.
