The South Winneshiek softball team got its season started last week as the Warriors fell to a pair of non-conference foes.

On Wednesday (May 26), SW traveled to Saint Ansgar to take on the Saints. Now 4-1, Saint Ansgar won the game by a score of 14-4.

The No. 6-ranked South Winneshiek baseball team got its season underway in dominating fashion, picking up a pair of wins over New Hampton and Waukon last week.

On Tuesday, May 25, the Warriors defeated New Hampton by a score of 14-5.

A special City Council meeting was held Monday evening in Ossian as a new maintenance foreman was chosen.

Following a lengthy discussion on candidates among council members and Mayor Bryan Beckman, it was determined that Brian Zweibohmer would be promoted to the position. Zweibohmer will replace current maintenance foreman Don DiLaura, who will retire at the end of July.

The 2021 Winneshiek County Fair is fast approaching. After taking a year off in 2020 due to the pandemic, one of the best county fairs in Iowa is back from July 13-17.

The Fair will officially kick off Tuesday, July 13, in Decorah with a night of action-packed racing at Upper Iowa Speedway for the evening’s Grandstand entertainment. Hot laps will start at 6 p.m. with racing to follow at 6:30 p.m.

On Wednesday evening (July 14), Rogue Rodeo will take to the main stage at 7 p.m.

Amelia Schwickerath

 

 

Amelia Marie Schwickerath, the daughter of Joshua and Emily Schwickerath, was born an angel on May 26, 2021, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. 

The funeral service were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Rev. Kevin Frey celebrating the service.  

Friends greeted the family from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home and Crematory in New Hampton. Mark E. Wulfekuhle, 60, of Fayette, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 29, 2021, at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 3, 2021, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fayette with Rev. Donald Komboh celebrating. Inurnment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Cemetery, rural Fayette.
