As the name of the Frostbite Relays at Sumner-Fredericksburg suggests, it was a chilly night for the North Fayette Valley boys’ track season debut on Tuesday, March 30, in Sumner.

“We did very well, considering the weather conditions,” said coach Mark Nuss of his team’s performance on the cold and windy evening. “This may have been one of the coldest nights with the win in my 37 years of doing this.”

“Our sprints and field events will be our “go-to” areas this season,” said coach Mark Nuss after his team competed Tuesday, March 30. “The girls did very well, especially considering the weather conditions.”

Despite the cold temperatures and strong win, the TigerHawk girls were able to earn four gold medals in the season’s first competition.

“I have spent hours on email or on the phone with advisors from NICC and SDSU to make sure the classes Abby takes are transferable and a good match to her goals,” said Amy Boehm, mother of North Fayette Valley senior, and future South Dakota State University (SDSU) student, Abby Boehm.

“The biggest message is that parents need to get involved if they or the kids want to take college courses,” Boehm added.  “Find out what they are looking to study in college if possible and compare those requirements to those available through NICC.”

Fayette County is planning to take over the operations of the Oelwein emergency communications center, it’s just a question of when and how, it’s going to be funded.

Oelwein representatives approached the Fayette County Board of Supervisors again on Monday, April 5, to discuss how the process is going to happen.

Oelwein City Administrator Dylan Mulfinger pointed out that revenue to operate the center has to be raised somehow.

Public Health across the nation has seen a year that will never be forgotten in the annals of health and world history. The institution has never been put to the test before like it was this year as it worked to help the spread of a pandemic that has killed millions.

This week is National Public Health Week, a time to recognize the contributions of public health.
