Two Warriors are headed to Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines this week after qualifying for the 2021 State Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

“I am very proud of how our guys prepared this week and how they wrestled on Saturday,” said coach Jacob Elsbernd after two of four Warrior wrestlers advanced at Districts. “It is always tough to see some of our guys not achieve their goals, but it doesn’t take away from the great seasons they put together!”

Both Damon Meyer (220) and Ethan Maldonado (126) will head to State on Thursday. For No. 11-ranked Maldonado, he is not three-for-three in trips to State while No. 6-ranked Damon Meyer will make his second trip to The Well.

Teaching has had to take on many new forms since the start of the school year last fall. One way that teachers at South Winneshiek have been able to maximize learning for students is through the use of SMART Board technology. “My SMART Board has been an awesome tool, especially with the circumstances this year,” said Connie Formanek, music and choir teacher at South Winn that utilizes the tool for all of her classes. “The possibilities really are endless. Not only do I use it every day to teach, but it has also made it much easier for E-Learning days because I am able to access my Board from home or anywhere that I have an internet connection.”
