Elgin Library receives grant

“These are books we would not normally be able to afford, so it is very exciting,” smiled Elgin Public Library director, Lisa Leuck of materials recently added to the local library’s extensive catalog through a grant recently awarded to the northeast Iowa library.

The grant, the Children's Book Project grant from the Pilcrow Foundation in Cottage Grove, Oregon was developed to help support local, rural libraries to help ensure an opportunity for active engagement within the community and lifelong learning.

“I feel like I found my niche when I moved to northeast Iowa,” smiled West Union Chamber/Main Street Executive Economic Director, Lisa Davis.  

“I have lived in the Midwest most of my life,” Davis continued.  “It is full of big-hearted communities with so much to offer!” 

Davis, who is entering her sixth year as owner and operator of her Clermont business, the Green Door, says she is excited about the opportunity to work with area businesses and the community.

Covid – 19 vaccinations are slowly but surely getting done in Fayette County. Most recently, County EMS members and pharmacists got the vaccine on Thursday, Dec. 31, and Maple Crest Manor in Fayette was one of the first nursing homes to get the vaccine on Wednesday, Dec. 30.

“EMS active members are finally getting there vaccine.  The hope is that in the next two weeks law enforcement and firemen will receive theirs,” said Fayette County Emergency Management Director Lisa Roberts.
