According to Krista Vanden Brink, administrator for Winneshiek County Public Health, over 500 COVID-19 vaccinations have been given to healthcare workers in the county.

Gordon Richard Solheim, 91, of Platte, SD passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Platte Health Center Avera. A Prayer Service for family was held at their home in Platte, A Celebration of Life in Platte to be announced. Memorial Services will be held at a later date at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ossian, Iowa with a Committal Service at Bethany Lutheran Church Cemetery. Mount Funeral Home of Platte is assisting with arrangements.

Gordon Richard Solheim was born on June 14, 1929 to Knut and Clara (Thorbjornson) Solheim on the family farm in Castalia, IA where he was also baptized. He was confirmed in 1943 and attended High School. On September 9, 1950 Gordy was united in marriage to Jeanive Halverson at Bethel Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, ND. He continued his education at Lutheran Brethren Bible College in Fergus Falls, MN, graduating in 1955 and going on to complete Seminary in 1957.

Judith A. “Judy” Buckmaster, 80, of Oelwein, Iowa went to her heavenly home on Tuesday afternoon, December 15, 2020 at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian.

Public Graveside Servicewere held 2 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Lima Cemetery, rural Fayette, Iowa, with Rev. Josh Schunk officiating.

A Private Family Visitation and Funeral Service will be held.

Rita Theresa Baumler, 92, of West Union, Iowa died Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Stoney Brook in West Union, Iowa. She was born June 8, 1928 to Henry and Ida (Blong) Lansing in Ossian, Iowa.

 

Rita was united in marriage with Melvin Baumler on June 19, 1950. To this union seven children were born. Rita was an active member of the Holy Name Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of America, where she served as grand regent. She spent her life as a homemaker. She enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards, gardening, crocheting and sewing. She sewed many dresses and other clothing throughout the years, including at least one dress for each of her children’s wedding. In later years, she created many beautiful quilts.

Private Funeral Service:  St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington with Pastor Margaret Yackel-Juleen officiating.

Visitation: 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein.

Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein.

Jack R. Williams, 61, of Westgate, Iowa, died on Sunday evening, December 27, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center in Oelwein, Iowa.

Memorial Service were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2020 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate with Rev. Herbert C. Mueller, III officiating.

Visitation was from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2020 at the West Central School in Maynard and for one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

Inurnment was at the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Westgate.

Those not able to attend may view the memorial service on the funeral home website after Monday.

Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Maynard is assisting the family.

Alice Katherine Kauten, 73 years old, of Jesup, IA, died Monday, December 28, 2020, at MercyOne – Waterloo Medical Center, in Waterloo, IA, due to complications from Covid-19.

  Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2021, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, IA. The service were live streamed, with access from the church website. Visitation was 9 – 11 a.m., Saturday, at the church.

  Memorials may be directed to the church as well as to the family to be given to multiple organizations.

Steven Gary Wander, 70, of Elgin, Iowa died December 26, 2020 at his home in Elgin, Iowa. He was born October 18, 1950 to Jacob and Bertha (Tinderholt) Wander at Postville Community Hospital. Steve attended Clermont Elgin School and later moved with his father to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin where he graduated high school. Steve continued his education, earning a four-year degree from Upper Iowa in education and business.
