The South Winneshiek school board met Monday evening in Ossian with discussions highlighted by the district’s Return to Learn plan.

After hearing from concerned parents of students within the district, superintendent Kris Einck made a recommendation for elementary/middle school students to return to spending five days per week in the classroom. Under the district’s previous plan, students were only in the classroom Mondays through Thursdays.

Einck noted that the governor’s decision to allow full capacity at sporting events, along with South Winn’s mitigation strategies to reduce the spread of COVID-19 gave him confidence that students would not be at risk by spending an additional day in the classroom. He also noted that he understands that having Fridays off has been a tax on families as they have had to find alternative daycare.
