The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on many facets of the economy. One industry that has been affected by it has been within the recycling and can redemption business.
“I’ve been impacted pretty significantly throughout the past 10 months,” said Pat Nervig, owner of Main Street Liquor and Redemption Center in Calmar, which was established in 2014. “There are only two redemption centers in Winneshiek County and maybe five in all of northeast Iowa. Since the pandemic began, I have seen the number of customers that come through my door double since I opened back up in June.”
