Halloween is a go in Ossian! After briefly debating whether or not trick-or-treating would go on this year due to the COVID-19 outbreak, members of the Ossian City Council decided to hold it and to ultimately leave the decision to individuals.

“If someone does not feel comfortable handing out candy, they can leave their lights off. If someone doesn’t feel it’s safe for their kids to be out, they can keep them home,” said Mayor Bryan Beckman during Monday night’s council meeting. “I think that’s the best way to approach it this year.”

The council agreed with Beckman’s stance and decided to set Saturday, October 31, as the official date for trick-or-treating activities between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m.

Change is coming to the Winneshiek County fairgrounds in Decorah! That’s right, work has already begun on a new project that will include the removal of several current buildings as well as the construction of one new facility to replace the older deteriorating structures.

“This will put everything in one common location and will overall enhance the fairgrounds and make the fair an even better event,” said Becky Winkler, Winneshiek County Fair Board president. “Our main idea is to help out the community with this project.”

Similar to last Friday night, the TigerHawk football team took to the gridiron short handed as seven starters had to sit out due to testing positive for COVID-19 or being traced to a student who tested positive. Despite the disadvantage, NFV made the most of it and was able to make it a competitive game against Independence.

“With so many kids out, we had a lot of kids playing out of their normal position,” said assistant coach Travis Wymer who hosted the Coach’s Roundtable film review session on Saturday morning. “It came down to the big play. That is what killed us.”
