Robert “Bob” Cole, 78, of Oelwein, Iowa died Monday morning, October 5, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa.

A private family memorial service was held at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein.

A Public Celebration of Life was held 2 – 5 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the Jamison-Schmitz funeral Home in Oelwein.

Genevieve Martin, 84, of Oelwein passed away Monday October 5, 2020 at Oelwein Healthcare Center.  Genevieve gave as generously in death, as she did in life, by donating her body to the University Of Iowa College Of Medicine.  There will not be services at this time.  The Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home of Oelwein is assisting the family.  For condolences, please visit www.geilenfeldfh.com.

Genevieve Mae Martin was born in Marengo, Iowa on April 5, 1936 to parents Guy and Emiline (Zimmerman) Gould.  In 1952 she was united in marriage with DeWayne Medberry, and they later divorced.  She later married Art Stifel, and he passed away in 1981. On April 19, 1996 Genevieve was united in marriage with Frederick Martin in Oklahoma, and he passed away in 2018.

Julia Elizabeth (Schaufenbuel) Tallman, 97, of Oelwein, Iowa passed away on Monday morning, October 5, 2020 with her three children at her bedside at the Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial:  Funeral Mass is for the immediate family only.  The Funeral Mass will be recorded and posted on the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home website and facebook page following the service.Rev. Ray Atwood will officiate.

Interment:  Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa.

John Nydegger

 

John Louis Nydegger, 93, of Lewiston, Idaho, formerly of Elgin, Iowa died November 29, 2019 at the Veteran’s Home in Lewiston, Idaho. John was born on November 28, 1926, the only child of John and Helen (Cummings) Nydegger. He grew up on a small farm near Elgin, Iowa and attended a one-room country school for eight years. John graduated from West Union High School in 1944.

 

Before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945, John attended the University of Iowa for one year. While in the service, he served in the Philippine Islands as a member of the 281stArmy Ground Forces band. On his discharge from the service, John attended Iowa State Teachers College, (now The University of Northern Iowa) graduating in 1949 with majors in English, Speech and Drama.

Dr. Philip D. Langerman 85 of Fayette, IA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 10, 2020. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the services at First Methodist Church in Fayette, Iowa. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette with military rites provided by American Legion Post #339 of Fayette. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette is assisting the Langerman family.

The Blue Devils remain atop the Upper Iowa Conference standings in volleyball after West Central went 2-0 last week, picking up back-to-back wins over Central and MFL/MarMac on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 5 and 6.

The team began the week with a 3-0 win over Central, downing the Warriors by scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-14.

The TigerHawk runners had a solid day on the course last week as the No. 11-ranked NFV boys placed eighth and the girls came home sixth at the 40th Annual West Delaware Hawks Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

“We were practicing to get our teams out faster for a quicker start, and both the firls’ and boys’ varsity teams did just that,” said coach Neal Bentley after his team’s performance. “The coaches really loved seeing some gritty racing up and down the teams on a tough, hilly course,”

The TigerHawk netters picked up win No. 5 of the season Tuesday night (Oct. 6) in West Union as they took down Kee in five sets.

In a back and forth opening set, the Hawks took the 28-26 win before NFV fired back with 25-19 and 25-17 wins in the second and third.
