The TigerHawk volleyball squad shut out the Postville Pirates on Thursday night, helping North Fayette Valley improve to 2-2 on the season.

“I thought we did a nice job of controlling the net,” said assistant coach Jared Tilleraas. “Our hitters did a nice job of putting balls away on offense and I also thought we did a nice job on defense with blocking. We made it tough on Postville when they attacked on offense.”

The TigerHawks won by scores of 25-10, 25-15, and 25-19. Individuals statistics for the match were unavailable at press time, as NFV experienced technical difficulties with its game tape recording and was unable to calculate statistics.

'Coach Scott smiling down on NFV runners'

Over 300 runners begin the grueling course at NFV Thursday as the First Annual Bob Scott Cross Country Invitational opened varsity competition. Formerly known as the TigerHawk Open, the event was renamed after last year’s race to honor Scott, who started not only the cross country programs at North High, but also the girl’s basketball program. Scott also won State titles in cross country and track. Fittingly enough the NFV boys won the first annual running of the memorial race. (Jerry Wadian photos)

It was close Friday night, but it just wasn’t meant to be as the TigerHawk football team fell to Crestwood by a score of 14-12.

“I’m really proud of the effort,” said coach Justin Heins after the tough loss. “This was probably the best game we have played so far this year. We played well enough to win, but just had a few penalties and fumbles that killed some promising drives.”

New Scenic View Church

If you happen to notice the huge church that is currently under construction on the north side of Lane Road, about a half mile west of Prairie View, now known as Inspiring Lives, you might be immediately taken aback by its impressive stature that is made even more impressive when viewed next to its rather plain surroundings.

Although the structure itself stands out in physical and visual contexts, to the 70 members of the Mennonite church, its impression creates an even larger, more meaningful impact.

Titus Unruh and Dan Koehn, both of rural West Union, are two of the Mennonite Church of God in Christ members who are devoting their vacation time to the Scenic View Mennonite Church building project. Both men are just getting started with creating their own new families. Titus runs his own construction business and Dan builds portable buildings for RGK Buildings in West Union. Titus and his wife, Miss, have a one-year old daughter, Arrow. Dan and his wife, Bethany, have six-month old baby girl, Ayea. Miss works on her father’s deer farm in rural Hawkeye and both women have been doing lots of volunteer work on the church providing meals for all the workers and doing other necessary tasks.
