NFV boys 2nd, girls 3rd at Central XC meet

Leo Phan is not the fastest runner on the very talented NFV boy’s cross country team. However, judging by the expression on his face during the recent Bob Scott Invitational Cross Country Race in West Union, he has to be one of the most determined as he sprints towards the finish line. In action for the second time in three days, the TigerHawk cross country program competed at Central on Thursday afternoon and came home with a couple of top three team finishes.

Carrying the title of the No. 10-ranked team in Class 2A, the TigerHawk boys placed all five scoring runners inside the top 11 to score 37 points, but unfortunately it was not quite enough to win the meet. South Winneshiek, the No. 14 team in Class 1A, took first with 19 points while Clayton Ridge was third with 78 points.

The TigerHawk volleyball team overcame a 1-0 deficit Thursday night to get the 3-1 win over Central.

“Like Tuesday night, we started off slow,” said head coach Jenny Lee, whose team dropped the first set by a score of 25-22. “We passed really well throughout the night and our aggressive serving helped us pull of the win.”

TigerHawks rally big in the second half to beat NH

NFV gained 320 total yards last week against New Hampton. Most of that is due to the stout blocking of the men in the trenches. A perfect example is this play where seniors Alex Streif (52) and Chase Cooley (55) pass block against the Chickasaws. (Jerry Wadian photos)

After over a year of waiting to be decorated with its own unique design by Iowa artist Bubba Sorenson, Fayette’s Freedom Rock was unveiled Friday afternoon.

“This is exciting that Fayette gets to be the home of the county rock, and that so much of Fayette, as well as the whole county, is included in the design,” said Fayette mayor, Andrew Wenthe during the unveiling ceremony.  “This will be a piece of our legacy for many years to come.”
