TigerHawks grab runner-up, 3rd at Waukon

One of the surprises for the NFV girl’s cross country team has been Ava Bilden, who has consistently placed third on the team. Last week the freshman was 15th overall in a loaded field in Waukon. She placed 15th with a time of 22:49. As a team, the TigerHawks were third overall. (Jerry Wadian photo)

Huskies bite short-handed TigerHawks, 30-15

For a while, it had the looks of being a true underdog story for the TigerHawk football team – but in the end, the Oelwein ground-and-pound was just too much for the younger and less experienced NFV squad.

Only a few hours before kickoff, North Fayette Valley head coach Justin Heins would learn that several of his key starters would miss the game due to COVID-19 precautions, throwing a wrench in the game plan for Friday night’s matchup against the Huskies.

With starting quarterback Tanner Johnson, starting fullback/line backer Liam McIntyre, starting receivers/defensive backs Cole Everitt and Kole Johnson, and several other key players not able to make the trip to Oelwein, many younger and less experienced TigerHawks would need to step up.

After Oelwein found the endzone first on a short 8-yard run, the TigerHawk offense would settle in and get to work.

All students in the North Fayette Valley School District can receive a free breakfast and lunch each day as of September 28.

In March, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service approved a summer food service program to allow students to receive meals in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the resulting school closures.

Now, the program has been extended through December 31, or until available funds run outs.

Voting, absentee and in-person, starts Oct. 5

Voting, absentee and in-person, starts Oct. 5

So far, Fayette County Auditor Lori Moellers reports that she has received 4,100 absentee ballot requests for the upcoming Nov. 3 general election.

In 2016 during the last presidential election cycle, 3,618 absentee ballots were cast in Fayette County, state data shows. So it would appear absentee voting this year is going to far outreach that mark.

Moellers reports that there has been lots of questions in recent days about the number of ballot request forms that individuals are receiving. Moellers said that as long as voters get one request in that’s all that matters. They do not have to send in multiple requests.
