Plans announced for West Union's Fourth of July celebration

Independence Day will be celebrated “West Union Strong” this year!

While the COVID-19 pandemic has created many changes in yearly events and traditions throughout the country, West Union’s annual Fourth of July celebrations are still a go!

“West Union Strong” will be this year’s theme, and event organizers are challenging area households to create a visual in their yards that represents the theme.

There will be judges touring the town throughout the day to judge all of the unique “West Union Strong” creations.

While many of the annual event’s traditions are going to be different in order to comply with safety guidelines, the Fourth of July committee was committed to making sure the event was held this year.

“One of the biggest changes is that we won’t be doing anything up at the Rec Center,” noted committee member Dan Doebel.  “The softball games, bouncy houses, and other events just weren’t something we could do with the guidelines.”

This year’s celebrations will be held at the West Union town square this year instead.
