West Union Library reopening Monday, June 22

 

According to state requirements, libraries may reopen, but only to the extent that the facility takes reasonable measures to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 consistent with guidance issued by IDPH.

With this in mind, West Union Library reopens with changes starting Monday, June 22.  Temporary hours are Monday-Friday, 10-5:30 p.m.  If you or a member of your household are sick or have been exposed to someone with Covid-19 in the last 2 weeks, we ask that you do not come to the Library.  Call for other options.

West Union set to purchase golf course for trail development

The city of West Union recently voted to approve the purchase of the West Union Golf Course by the city for $350,000.  The city plans to use the land to develop a walking a biking trail. (Megan Molseed photo)

The West Union City Council made a motion to purchase the West Union golf course for $350,000 during its June 1 meeting.  After purchase, the council hopes to use the property to further economic development plans and trail development.

The new Clover Café is on track to open in time for the Fayette County Fair, July 21-25. Work started this spring on the new structure.

The new Clover Café will be one of the added attractions at this year’s Fayette County Fair, July 21-25.

The new café is nearing completion, just in time for the fair. It was announced last week that the fair was definitely going to happen this year despite several other area fairs cancelling, along with the State Fair, due to the Covid-19 situation.

     Joyce Shindelar, age 76, of Calmar IA, passed away at her home on June 5th, lovingly surrounded by her husband and children after a short battle with cancer. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 304 South Maryville Street, Calmar, IA, with Rev. Robert Gross presiding.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation was held from: 3-7 p.m., on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, 202 South Washington Street, in Calmar, IA. The Schluter-Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
