 Major Douglas Robert Roach (Ret) was born on September 25, 1958 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, (on a balmy day with a barometric pressure that would have indicated good fishing) Robert Roach and Joann (Eldridge) Roach. He grew up with two brothers and two sisters. He graduated from high school in 1977 in Waterloo, Iowa.

Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital & Clinics, in conjunction with Gundersen Health System, is resuming limited in-person care.

GPLHC Public Information Officer and Fayette County Health representative Jamie Hoey said the focus will be on low-risk, high-priority patients. 

Hoey said the initial visits will be a kind of testing ground to see if the hospital will be able to open more fully in the future.

Vicky Halstead will be the new Fayette County Assessor once she gets the proper paper work in place. She is currently the chief deputy assessor in Benton County. She has a total of 18 years experience, joining the Benton County Assessor’s Office in 2001. She became a deputy assessor in 2012 and  the chief deputy in 2017.

Working in the Assessor’s office, her responsibilities included real estate appraisal, assisting the assessor with abstracts, scheduling assessor review appointments and Board of Review appointments, processing splits and subdivisions. She was recently interviewed separately by both the Fayette County Examining Board, and the Conference Board and was a unanimous choice.

 “It will feel pretty amazing to click on our ‘Open’ sign again,” smiled Mike Roach of reopening his store, Dessel-Roach Furniture and Floorsafter Iowa Governor, Kim Reynolds made a declaration allowing some businesses, including furniture and flooring stores, to reopen in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

“Of course, we are going to take every step that we possibly can to make sure our customers feel safe and comfortable when shopping here,” continued Roach, adding that, even though the store may be reopening, the local business will be dedicated to practicing smart methods regarding disinfecting and maintaining social distance during the hours of operation.

SW High School will go ahead with Commencement, May 17

SW High School will go ahead with Commencement May 17

 

South Winneshiek High School is planning on holding commencement, Sunday, May 17, at 1 p.m., as originally scheduled, however it will be at the high school football field.  

Students will be placed 10-feet apart on the football field.  Only the senior parents will be allowed to attend.  They will be socially distanced in the grandstands on the home side of the football field.  

Superintendent Kris Einck and Connie Euans will be on the track with a podium directing the program.  Board members can attend and be spaced to follow the social distancing guidelines.  The commencement program will be recorded and put on the school website and social media for people to view.

“I will be closely monitoring the weather forecast to arrange for a backup plan in case of inclement weather.  We will make a decision about postponing if necessary once we get closer to the day of the event,” Einck said.
