The NFV boys’ soccer team closed out its initial season as a varsity sport at home against Decorah on Thursday at Pattison Field in Fayette.

The 13-5 Vikings came out strong, gaining a 2-0 lead midway through the second half.

Then, Kole Johnson scored with 20 minutes left in the game on an assist from Taylor Luzum.

That seemed to ignite the TigerHawks as they came close a number of times to tying the game, but came up just short.

NFV went into the boys’ Class 2A District Golf Tournament Friday in Dike with high hopes; however, things didn’t go well as they wanted. The TigerHawks finished sixth on the cold, blustery, rainy day.

However, Colin Gavin finished as medalist runner-up, thereby qualifying to compete as an individual at the State Golf Tournament Thursday and Friday at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course in Marshalltown.

Despite only competing in four events, the NFV girls’ track team scored two points and broke a pair of school records at the State Track Meet last week in Des Moines.

The girls had to fight a variety of conditions over the three-day meet. It was brutally hot (91 degrees) and humid Thursday, thunderstorms on Friday, and a little bit of everything on Saturday.

Fox files lawsuit against City of West Union

By Chris DeBack

Former West Union police officer Sierra Fox is suing the City of West Union in Fayette County District Court for sexual harassment, sexual discrimination, and retaliation. She is asking for a jury trial.

She has also named West Union police chief Paul Becthold and West Union City Administrator Nick McIntyre as defendants.

Fox’s attorney, Katie Ervin Carlson, submitted the formal petition to Fayette County District Court today (Tuesday, May 21). The petition lays out the same information that has been reported in previous stories.
