“You brighten my day in band,” wrote one chorus classmate of Starmont sophomore Drew DeLuca. “DREW COOL DUDE,” wrote another on the sheet peppered with positive proclamations of the young man surrounding the simple statement  “Drew DeLuca is awesome because…”

The sheet, which was an assignment for the Starmont chorus class is a perfect summation of the young man’s personality, reflecting many of his strongest qualities, the words “funny,” “smart,” and “kind” showing up multiple times.  One student wrote “great runner,” and another “he can rock and roll!” of the teenager on the encouraging notes.

“He has such an infectious personality,” Lea (Bostrom) VanHorn said of her middle son.  “He really likes to meet new people, learn their names.”

An avid runner and musician, Drew has been attending school at Starmont since kindergarten, just a few short years after being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at the age of 2.
