Supervisors discuss moving County Attorney to courthouse

At their regular Monday meeting, Jan. 29, the Fayette County Supervisors and Oelwein City officials discussed moving the County Attorney’s Office to the Fayette County Courthouse in West Union. 

The Oelwein City officials with whom the Supervisors met were Peggy Sherrets, mayor; Dylan Mulfinger, city administrator; and Jeremy Logan, police chief.  

Sherrets opened the discussion by asking how the Supervisors came to the conclusion of moving the County Attorney’s Office to the courthouse.

Dorothy Wurster, formerly of Elgin, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2018, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Elgin.

Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the church before the service.

Burial will take place at a later date.

Sabrina Anne Kent, 39, of Wadena died Wednesday evening, Jan. 24, 2018, at her home in Wadena surrounded by her loving family and friends.

A Memorial Mass was held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Volga with Rev. John Haugen officiating. 

Inurnment followed at Wadena Cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to the family for later designation. 

Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette assisted the family with arrangements.

Sabrina Anne, daughter of Myron “Mick” and Susan Kay (Green) Nagle, was born Nov. 8, 1978, in Waterloo.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Evansdale.

Maxine Engels

Maxine Engels

 

 

Maxine Engels, 89, of Rockford, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018, in Des Moines, Iowa.

A Funeral Mass for Maxine Engels was held Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford, Iowa, with Monsignor Walter Brunkan as celebrant. 

Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford, Iowa.

Maxine Verna (Kramer) Engels, the daughter of John and Theresa (Reis) Kramer, was born on Feb. 6, 1928 in Rockford, Iowa. 

She attended country school, St. Mary’s School at Roseville, and graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1945. 

After high school, she met John Engels at a church dance. They were united in marriage on Oct. 29, 1947 at St. Mary’s Church in Roseville, Iowa. This started a more than 50-year love affair that blessed them with 12 children.

Darlene Ruth Heins of West Union died peacefully at her home on the evening of Jan. 26. She was 84.

Darlene was born March 17, 1933, in West Bend, Iowa, to Mollie and Eli Schneider. 

Most of her childhood was spent in Elgin, where she graduated from high school and worked in the office for Dr. Henry Wolf. 

She married Robert Heins on Jan. 21, 1951, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Elgin. She and Bob recently celebrated 67 years of marriage.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Darlene raised her family in two side-by-side houses on Auburn Street, both built by husband Bob. She loved keeping an immaculate house at both addresses. She specialized in decorating for the seasons, especially autumn, Christmas, spring, and summer. Every room was transformed every season with pictures, flowers, and quilts. She was a mother and homemaker and, briefly, a part-time employee at the state liquor store.

Opal Hester Goodrich, 98, of West Union, Iowa and formerly of Prairie City, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society in West Union.  

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Prairie City Church of the Brethren.  

Burial will take place at Clark Cemetery near Luther, Iowa.  

The family will greet friends following the service with a luncheon at the church.  

Memorials may be directed to Prairie City Church of the Brethren or Athletes In Action at the University of Iowa.

The daughter of Earl and Mary Susan (Buckingham) Brubaker, Opal was born on Jan. 14, 1920, in Prairie City.  

Opal attended Prairie City schools graduating from high school in 1938.
