Thirteen incorporated communities across Fayette County held city elections on Tuesday, Nov. 7. All those elected or re-elected will take office as of Jan. 1, 2018.

There were no surprises in West Union. The candidates running for the mayoral position and two city council seats were running unopposed, and all three were elected.

Adam Keller is the new mayor of West Union. Taking over for Kent Halverson, he was elected with 177 votes against 36 write-in votes among a scattering of different people. Isaiah Stansbery received 165 votes for his at-large council seat to 29 write-in votes. Neal Bentley will be a newcomer to city government, winning Ward 1 with 81 votes. He takes Keller’s seat as Keller moves to mayor.

Stolen Brothers BBQ in West Union will be reopening in the near future at its new location in Lilac Plaza along Hwy. 150 North.

With a new location, area residents can expect a number of changes from local restaurant owner Dan Mueller, including a new atmosphere and new menu items.

Initially, the restaurant will have the same hours, 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Those hours may change once any kinks have been worked out at the new location.

New menu

With a new location comes an expanded menu. Stolen Brothers BBQ will still carry those classic BBQ items and pizzas local residents have grown to love, but it will be adding more pastas, steaks, fish and a lunch buffet with a salad bar.

The lunch buffet will be a pasta and pizza buffet complete with a salad bar. The pastas will include spaghetti, mostaccioli, and possibly lasagna. For dinner, Mueller will add ziti, among other pasta dishes, and customers will have a choice from four different sauces: marinara, meat sauce, alfredo, and creamy marinara. The creamy marinara is a combination of the marinara and alfredo sauce.

“I want to have everyone to be able to enjoy my restaurant, not just the BBQ people,” Mueller said. “I want to be able to have the guy who loves BBQ and his wife who can tolerate it, but wants something different. I want to appeal to everyone, rather than the small niche.”

He will have a soft opening in the coming days, and patrons can expect to see the new menu items sometime in early December.
