Garry Schott

 

 

Garry L. Schott, 70, of Eldorado, Iowa passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Gundersen Health Systems in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. 

Garry Lee, the son of Fred and Ruth (Entwisle) Schott, was born Nov. 7, 1946 in West Union, Iowa.  

He was baptized on May 25, 1975 and confirmed on April 5, 1981, with his son Troy at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in West Union.  

He attended school in Clermont, Iowa.  

Garry farmed near Clermont for several years. He mainly worked as a carpenter for Midwest Buildings in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Garry was united in marriage with Kathy Kamaus on Nov. 8, 1964.  To this union three children, Troy, Todd, and Aimee, were born.  Garry and Kathy later divorced.  

Garry was then united with Karolyn Moritz, a union that has lasted 36 years.  As Garry and Karolyn blended their families, Garry gained four children, Tammie, Terrie, Dennis “Mick” and Jane.

Daryl Appelman, 74, of West Union, Iowa passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Gundersen Health Systems in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.  

Daryl Clarence, the son of Lewis and Agnes (Winter) Appelman, was born April 4, 1943 in Hawkeye, Iowa. 

Daryl graduated with the Class of 1961 from North High School in West Union and then attended Universal Trade School in Omaha, Nebraska.  

Daryl worked for Schwan’s Company and Reyner Vault Company in West Union and Blessing Industries in Fayette, Iowa. He also mowed lawns at North Fayette Schools and the West Union Recreation Center.

He served with the Army National Guard for six years.

Daryl was united in marriage with Judith Weidemann on May 18, 1968 at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union.  To this union one daughter, Sarah, was born.

Daryl was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and West Union American Legion Post 15.

Evelyn Marovets

Evelyn Marovets

 

 

Evelyn Lorraine Marovets, 93, of McGregor, Iowa died Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Elkader Care Center, Elkader, Iowa. 

Evelyn was born July 24, 1923 to Alfred and Hilda (Torkelson) Kleppe in rural Ossian, Iowa. 

She attended country school.

Evelyn was united in marriage with Ben Marovets on Oct. 11, 1946 at First Lutheran Church, Ossian, Iowa. 

Ben and Evelyn farmed side by side until 1971, when they retired to a 40-acre farm a quarter mile from the home place. Evelyn loved the outdoors and milked cows by hand, grew garden vegetables to can and also raised chickens. She loved to bake homemade bread and cakes and always had cookies on hand for anyone who stopped by. Her pies were out of this world. She was a second mother to many nieces and nephews, who would stay at the farm in the summer. Her Norwegian humor will be remembered by all.

Mary Ann Roach

Mary Ann Roach

 

 

Mary Ann Roach, 88, of West Union, Iowa passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Traditions in West Union, Iowa.  

Mary Ann (Lockwood) Roach was born Feb. 16, 1929 in Valentine, Neb., to Lewis and Ann Elizabeth (Hill) Lockwood.  

The family moved to a farm outside of Fayette, Iowa. Mary Ann attended country school and graduated from Fayette High School, where she was their first Homecoming Queen. 

She then attended nurses training in Des Moines and began a long career as an RN, caring for patients locally at Palmer Memorial Hospital, and then West Union Medical Clinic until her retirement.

Mary Ann married Matthew “Mick” Roach in Fayette on April 11, 1953.  They enjoyed 57 years together until his death in 2010.  Together they raised four children.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

North Fayette Valley softball split eight games last week. The TigerHawks swept Turkey Valley on Tuesday, lost a twin bill at Calmar on Thursday and went 2-2 in its TigerHawk Invitational over the weekend.

The NFV baseball team snapped a five-game losing streak Tuesday, May 30, in Starmont.

After losing the opener, 4-1 the TigerHawks exploded for a 9-3 triumph in the nightcap.

Alan and Janann Seabrooke of Elgin celebrated the 60th anniversary of their wedding on Friday, June 2.

Alan A. Seabrooke and Janaan M. Mork met while they were students at Upper Iowa University in Fayette. They were married June 2, 1957, at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder.

Janann is the daughter of the late Kenneth B. Mork and Georgia Meyer Mork, both of Elgin. Alan’s parents are the late Arthur M. and Henrietta Seabrooke of Cedar Rapids.

The Seabrookes are the parents of Jill (Randy) Mack of Earlville and Tim (Brenda) Seabrooke of Elgin. They also have eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One grandson and one great-granddaughter are deceased. 

Al and Janann will celebrate their anniversary with their family at a later date.

Special appearances by the amateur singing group “3 Brothers with Different Mothers” will take place at 8 p.m., 9 p.m., and 10 p.m.

Kaylena Jensen and Derek Neegaard, both of Dysart, were united in marriage in a 4 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, May 13, at Dysart United Methodist Church in Dysart. The Rev. Linda Butler officiated.

Parents of the bride are Barton and Dawn Jensen of Dysart. Parents of the groom are Erika and Dale Kane of Maynard and David Neegaard of Mankato, Minn.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an off-the-shoulder ivory gown featuring a lace overlay and train. She carried a bouquet of light blue hydrangeas and white roses.

The bride’s sister, Savannah Jensen of Dysart, was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Paige Huebner of Urbandale, Anne Sherwood of Des Moines, Megan Gross of Harker Heights, Texas, and Jessica Dunlap of Gardner, Kan., all friends of the bride; and KyLee Kane, sister of the groom, of Maynard.

They wore floor-length gowns of light blue and navy chiffon.
