Freeman Adams

 

 

Freeman John Adams age 90 of Waucoma, IA died Saturday, December 17, 2016, at New Hampton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Freeman John Adams was born June 16, 1926, in rural Waucoma, IA, the son of John and Dorothy (VanBrocklin) Adams.

He attended school in Waucoma, and was a graduate of the Waucoma High School in 1943.

He was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Korean War.

Freeman returned to the family farm where he lived and worked. He resided in Waucoma until September of 2016 when he moved into the New Hampton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

  Freeman loved taking his convertible for drives around the countryside. He enjoyed visiting, and reading Car & Driver magazine.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Waucoma before its closing.

Eugene Trudo

Eugene Trudo

 

 

Eugene Louis Trudo, 87, of McGregor, Iowa died Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Crossing Rivers Health, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

Eugene Louis was born on February 12, 1929 to Elmer and Elsie (McNally) Trudo in Clermont, Iowa.

He attended high school in Clermont and earned his GED through the Navy.

Eugene enlisted in the United States Navy and honorably served from 1946 to 1948. He was a full seaman first class and signalman. The first ship he was on was the A.V.P- 38 and was named the U.S.S. Duxbury Bay and the second ship he was on was the U.S.S. Floyd Bay 40. While in the Navy he was an amateur radio DJ in his leisure time. Eugene was in the Navy Reserves from January 1948 until November of 1955.

Donald Schoof

Donald Schoof

 

 

Donald Duane Schoof, was born March 9, 1922 in Waverly, Iowa. He was the son of Herman John Schoof and Irene Sophia Ann Seaman Schoof.

Donald died December 18, 2016 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa at the age of 94 years.

Don grew up in Waverly, Iowa and graduated from Waverly High School in 1940. He then studied for two years at Wartburg College before enlisting in the United States Army.

While in the Army he served as part of the Italian Campaign of World War II. He was honorably discharged having received two purple hearts and a bronze star. On completion of his military service he returned home to Waverly, Iowa.

On November 28, 1948, Donald was united in marriage to Verna Matilda Buhrow. They were the parents of five children:  Rebecca, Judith, Katherine, John and Lynn.

NFV wrestlers closed out the first half of the season with a pair of wins in a quadrangular Tuesday, Dec. 20, in Cresco.

The TigerHawks opened by beating North Butler, 42-27. In the second match, they lost to Crestwood, 51-23, but rebounded to edge Rockford, 39-34.

The North Fayette Valley girls continued to move up the standings, picking up their fourth win in five games Tuesday, Dec. 20, by rolling over visiting Starmont, 50-40.

The TigerHawk girls took it to the Stars early, hitting almost every shot they put up to race to a 14-5 lead during the first five minutes of the opening quarter.

Adalyn Tobin

Proud parents Mike and Jennifer Tobin of West Union would like to announce the birth of their daughter, Adalyn Grace Tobin.

Adalyn was born at 2:01 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. She weighed 9 lbs. 5 oz. and measured 20.5 inches in length.

She is the couple’s first child.

Adalyn is the granddaughter of Rod and Lisa Reicks of New Hampton and Ray and Joan Beebe of Forest City.

Her great-grandparents are Marlene Reicks of New Hampton and Russ and Monita Engstler of Garner.

Mason Cole was the first baby born at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital and Clinics in 2016.

He was born on Jan. 2 to Mitchell and Amber Cole of Elkader. He weighed in at 6 pounds, 9 ounces and was 19 inches long. Today, he is a healthy baby boy who now weighs 20 pounds and has grown to 24 inches.

Good Sam makes sure elderly aren't forgotten

Five volunteers came to the Good Samaritan Society — West Union to help prepare gift bags for the nursing home’s Elves for the Elderly program.  Those five include (l-r) Joni Spies Melody Patrick, Good Samaritan Society-Cedar Court Senior Living manager Deb Vondersitt; Donita O’Connell, and Brandy Burgin.

Everyone deserves a present at Christmastime. The Good Samaritan Society — West Union made sure that was a reality for some senior citizens in the West Union area.

Elves for the Elderly is a program started five years ago with a simple goal: to give gifts to senior citizens who may not otherwise receive one.
