North Fayette Valley assistant football coach Clint Rodgers will be inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletic Hall of Fame in special ceremonies Saturday night.

When notified last July by UIU athletic director David Miller, one of Rodgers first reactions was “The banquet’s not on Friday night, is it? I can’t attend because I’ll have a football game!”

Fortunately for all concerned, the banquet, which had been moved to Friday, was moved back to Saturday night a couple of years ago, so Rodgers can be one of the five to earn induction this year. He will be going into the Athlete category.

The visiting Trailblazers fought hard, but they just didn’t have the athletes as North Fayette Valley celebrated Homecoming with a 42-7 win over Dyersville Beckman.

As NFV head coach Bob Lape put it, “They have some very good talent, but are struggling because they don’t have enough of it.”

Getting the upper hand on cancer

August 16, 2016, is a date that will forever be remembered by Bridget Parker and her family, including husband Brent and children Brenna and Bristol (l-r). It was on that date that Bridget learned that she had stage 3 breast cancer. As she continues to fight, she is able to rest a little easier knowing that her wonderful family and friends are there to support her every step of the way. (Zakary Kriener photo)

August 16, 2016, is a date that changed the lives of Decorah’s Brent and Bridget Parker and family. For the couple, who were both born and raised in Fayette County, Aug. 16 was the day that Bridget was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.

“I was in disbelief when we first found out,” shared Parker. “I have no family history of anything like this, so it was the furthest thing from my mind.”
