In sports, it is all about momentum and playing your best at just the right time.

A lot of teams and individuals have struggled during the regular season only to suddenly perform their best during the playoffs on the way to the championship.

This perfectly describes the run West Central’s Kenzie Squires has had as she is the first female Blue Devil to qualify for the Girls’ State Golf Tournament. Playing in the Regional final on Monday, May 23, at Buffalo Creek Golf Course in Winthrop, Squires shot an 18-hole round of 92 to tie for fifth place. It was her lowest score in varsity competition. Caitlyn Jacobs of Prince of Peace won the tournament with a score of 82. The top five golfers all advance.

Life can change in the blink of an eye.

A rural Maynard family lost their home, a family pet and family treasures in a house fire that consumed their home in the late hours of Tuesday night, May 17.

At approximately 10:15 p.m., Royce Bantz was getting ready to lie down for bed when he heard a loud boom that shook the house. Earlier, his daughter Cheyenne Bantz, a senior a West Central set to graduate high school last weekend, had noted she smelled smoke.
