The South Winneshiek boys’ golf team, which is currently ranked No. 3 in Class 2A and has three individuals ranked in the top 10, officially claimed a seat at the table for the 2016 State Golf Meet this weekend.

The South Winneshiek girls’ golf team, which is currently ranked No. 4 in Class 2A and has a pair of golfers ranked in the top eight, will be on its way to the State Golf Meet in Granger next week. The Warriors were the top team in the Region 4 final at Fox Ridge Golf Course in Dike, shooting a combined 382. Sumner-Fredericksburg, which shot a 400, will also advance to the State Meet.

Henry James Monroe Jr., 88, of Castalia, Iowa died Monday, May 16, 2016 at Gundersen Health Systems, La Crosse, Wisconsin. Henry James “Jr” was born November 19, 1927 at the Monroe farm in Castalia, Iowa to Henry Sr. and Nettie (Peschel) Monroe. He attended the rural Castalia School and helped his parents on the family farm.  Jr joined the Army in 1947, serving as an AMVET. He was honorably discharged to come home to work on the family farm.

Toppling Goliath set to expand

 

The Decorah City Council voted Monday, May 16, to approve construction of a new headquarters for Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. in the business park on the eastern edge of Decorah. The plan for the over 52,000-square-foot building includes a brewing room, warehouse, and a 9,000-square-foot tap room. Since its beginning in 2009, Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. has expanded its reach worldwide and is regarded as one of the top microbreweries in the United States.

Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. (TG) in Decorah has quickly become not only one of the most famous craft beers in the United States, but in the world. The local brewing company, which planted its roots in Decorah in 2009, has grown into a giant, receiving countless awards for excellence in crafting and holding several of the top spots on the popular beer rating website, Ratebeer.com.

Monday evening, May 16, the Decorah City Council approved plans for construction of a brand-new 52,140-square-foot facility in the Decorah business park, located off Prosperity Road on the eastern edge of town.
