The weekend didn’t turn out as well as the West Central Blue Devils would have hoped after they fell in all four of their matches at a tournament Saturday in Denver. However, their willingness to never give up was on display front and center.

Don’t tell that to former Upper Iowa University quarterback Cole Jaeschke, who is making a run at continuing his football career and is starring in an Emmy Award-winning television show, “Undrafted,” on the NFL Network.

Back in the 1960s people predicted that a lake proposed for Fayette County would never hold water. But 36 years later, the concern isn’t for maintaining levels of Frog Hollow Lake – which has remained stable since it was completed in 1979 – but improving on its impaired status.

If you just look at the standings, the North Fayette Valley cross country teams did not look too good Tuesday (Sept. 22) in Waukon as the boys finished seventh and the girls were fifth.

However, head coach Tracy Nuss was ecstatic as he stated, “I’m very proud of the runners. On a very warm night for cross country, 14 of our 20 runners set season-best times.”

The season-best times were almost equally split between the two teams. With the new 5K distance for girls’ races, it meant all eight gals also set personal-bests.
