When the fast-approaching benchmark of 60 years on the job approaches at the end of December for Evroul and Germaine Beckman, owners of Beckman’s Ace Hardware in downtown Ossian, the two will flip off the light switch and lock up the doors one last time.

The couple have owned a hardware store along Main Street in Ossian since 1961. Although the store location and name have changed, the wonderful customer service that can only be found in small-town Iowa has held strong over the decades.

Since retiring from a career in law enforcement, Tom Jennings says there's little he looks forward to more than relaxing at Clermont’s Sand Creek Campground, owned by Bruce and Sarah Lehmann, during most weeks of the summer.

Situated on 4.7 acres along Apple Road, Jennings said Sand Creek's quiet, peaceful setting suits him perfectly. He appreciates getting away from the hectic schedules and noise of Waterloo, where he and his wife, Nancy, have lived for most of their lives and where they raised their two sons.
