The St. Lucas Veterans Memorial has been completed and will be dedicated in a ceremony to be held Friday, June 26, at 6 p.m during St. Lucas Fun Days. Everyone is invited to attend a social hour beginning at 5 p.m. as well as the dedication to follow. State Representative Darrel Branhagen, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, will be the speaker for the occasion.
“We thought it would be a great time to dedicate the memorial since so many people will be in town this weekend for St. Lucas Fun Days,” said Melvin Bodensteiner, St. Lucas Legion adjutant.
The memorial is located directly south of the Community Center, on land donated by Susan Nusz in memory of her late husband, Lawayne Nusz. St. Lucas Aloysius Schmitt American Legion Post 691, Auxiliary Unit 691, and the City of St. Lucas all worked together to make the memorial a reality.
