North Fayette Valley wrestlers had a busy week with a triangular Thursday in Calmar and a big tournament Saturday in Hudson.

The TigerHawks split in Calmar, downing shorthanded Central/Elkader, 74-0, but losing to host South Winn, 41-29.

North Fayette Valley boys’ basketball had a successful trip to Postville Tuesday, Jan. 13, beating the Pirates, 43-40.

The much-anticipated matchup against Clayton Ridge finally took place Thursday in West Union with the Eagles edging the TigerHawks, 55-53.

NFV girls' basketball wins second

 

The North Fayette Valley girls won their second basketball game of the season Tuesday night (Jan. 13) in Postville. Thursday, the girls lost at Hudson, 49-26, and earlier in the week the TigerHawks lost a home game to Waukon, 54-40.

The win in Postville came after a terrible start as the TigerHawks dug themselves a 12-6 hole in the first eight minutes.

Lillian Marie “Lilly” White died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 19, at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco.

Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Cresco.

Lindstrom Funeral Home, Cresco, assisted the family with arrangements.

Lilly was born in Schley, Iowa, on July 16, 1928, to Frank and Olena Opat.

She lived and farmed near Cresco most of her life.

Lilly told many stories of growing up “working like a man” alongside her “daddy” on the farm and assisting her mother in the home.  

At a young age, Lilly became a mother to Robert “Berta” Linderman, the first of her two sons. After that marriage came to a necessary end, she met and married her true life partner, Kenneth Allen White. Together they brought into the world their son, Roger Allen.

Randy Lee Molokken, 56, Clermont, Iowa, died Friday, January 9, 2015, at Palmer Hospital in West Union, Iowa.

Randy was born on November 28, 1958, in West Union, Iowa, to Arthur and Lyla (Osmundson) Molokken.

He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, Ossian, Iowa.

Randy graduated from North High School in West Union, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Connie Hanson in May of 1990 and they were later divorced.

Randy loved dogs, especially, Shorty, Spike and Cody, he also raised Paint Horses over the years. He also farmed and raised milking goats for many years on the family farm.

Randy also worked at Seitz Construction, Einck Construction, Pattison Sand Co. and Calmar Manufacturing.

He loved to take his car out and go for drives and also to class reunions.

Lisa Ann Baumler, 50, of West Union, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa. 

Lisa was born on April 15, 1964 in West Union to Richard and Edna (Nelson) Blockhus.  She graduated from North High School in West Union and also graduated from Area One College with an associate’s degree.

Lisa was married to Keith Baumler on August 16, 1986.  Through this marriage three sons were born, Joshua and twins Cody and Dillon.

Lisa worked for Michael Insurance for 6 years and for Farm Credit Services for 18 years and enjoyed her co-workers and many clients across several counties.

She belonged to the North Fayette Valley Booster Club and was a member of the Holy Name Rosary Society.

  Lisa loved life, her work, her family and her many friends and they loved her, as she was peacefully surrounded by many of them at the time of her death.

Margaret Foxwell, 93, of Elgin died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at Gundersen Health System, LaCrosse, Wis.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Illyria Community Church, rural Elgin.

Burial will be at Illyria Cemetery.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin. There will also be a one-hour visitation before services at the church on Saturday.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin, is helping the family with arrangements.

Carl B. Franzen, age 102, of Ossian, IA, died on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Monsignor Cletus Hawes on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian.

Interment was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Hampton. Casket bearers were Roger Franzen, Daniel Baumler, Randy Franzen, Duane Franzen, Dean Franzen, Tim Franzen, and George “Jim” Tierney.

Arrangements were handled by Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Decorah.

Carl B. Franzen was born on September 21, 1912, the son of Joseph Sr. and Kathrina (Boyer) Franzen on the family farm near St. Lucas, IA. 

Carl attended St. Luke’s Catholic School and later worked with the CC Corps.

He was united in marriage to Madeline Kelly in 1942.

Ardath M. Cannon went to heaven, Saturday, January 17, 2015. A memorial service will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, Iowa on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the church.

 rdath Marilyn (Vagts) Cannon, daughter of Fredric (Fritz) and Amanda (Grafenberg) Vagts was born October 8, 1931 in Dover Township (Eldorado).

 he was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, Iowa. It was there she was baptized on November I, 1931 and confirmed on May 20, 1945. She was united in marriage to Clarence (Buzz) Cannon on January 21, 1951 at St. Peter.

 rdath attended country school at Dover No.2 through the 8th grade, then attended West Union High School, graduating in 1949.
