As part of National Mentoring Month in January, adults are asked to “Be Someone Who Matters To Someone Who Matters.”

North Fayette Mentoring coordinator April Wilker emphasizes that every moment a well-matched mentor spends with his or her mentee will most likely be the catalyst for improved relationships with the child’s own family and friends.

“I don’t believe the mentors always fully understand that they are making a difference in a child’s life,” said April, who as a 12-year-old herself was mentored by a Luther College student. “They may not see it that day or the next, but down the road they will see how they have positively affected a young person’s life.
