Edgewood Locker West will see a name change to Arlington Locker, when Lyndall and Nancy Winter assume ownership on Sunday, Feb. 1.

The Winters, who operate Winter Bison near Bluegrass, had been looking to purchase a locker near their southeast Iowa farm for quite some time. With little success, the outlook seemed grim until they met Terry Kerns at an auction of locker items in late fall.

"We drove up after the auction, took a look around, and fell in love with it," explained Nancy.

North Fayette Valley girls gave MFL/MM quite a scare Tuesday, Jan. 20, in Monona losing in the final minutes, 46-42.

Over the weekend, NFV lost at home Friday to Central/Elkader, 46-31, and Saturday at Crestwood, 49-22.

NFV led most of the way Tuesday in Monona.  While it wasn’t a win, it did show how the girls have progressed since they were beaten by MFL/MM, 65-43, Dec. 12 in West Union.

TigerHawk boys have rough week

The North Fayette Valley boys’ basketball team had a rugged week, losing all three games.

Tuesday, Jan. 20, in Monona, the TigerHawks fell behind early and never caught up in dropping a 62-45 decision.

NFV could not overcome its cold shooting, hitting just 14-42 on the night, including a 1-7 night from downtown.

Three TigerHawks were in double figures as Austin Callahan (13), Brandon Fenneman (12), and Thomas Hanson (11) led the attack. Fenneman completed a double-double with a dozen rebounds. Phil Kleve nailed the only 3-pointer for NFV while the Bulldogs were 9-21 from beyond the arc.

NFV outrebounded its hosts, 33-25, but the Dogs had 11 steals to just two for the TigerHawks.

It was a momentous week for North Fayette Valley wrestling. The TigerHawks made the school’s debut on The Predicament’s top-10 list, coming in at number 10.

Four wrestlers reached career and season milestones during the week. Zach Bruns won his 125th career match Saturday in Waverly, making him the school’s all-time leader in wins, passing Justin Heins’ total of 124 (Lincoln Monroe is the career leader at Valley with 159).

Senior Tyler Johansen and junior Nick Baumler earned their 100th career wins during the week. That means four current grapplers have won 100 times. Also, Austin DeMuth is now the season leader in technical falls after getting his seventh over the weekend; Brian Fink had six T-falls during the 1988-89 season.

In its first month of operation, 35 patients were drawn to the new MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) unit at Palmer Lutheran Health Center (PLHC) in West Union. Understandably, Radiology Department supervisor Jayne Soppe feels the new full-time service at the local hospital got off to a healthy start.

“It is now so much more convenient for our patients. There is such a short wait to be served, and they no longer have to walk outside and into possibly inclement weather conditions to get to the former mobile unit,” said Soppe, while explaining that a mobile MRI unit previously scheduled stops at PLHC only on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
