Plans are for the former Hawkeye Elementary building to continue providing lifelong learning and healthrelated resources to the entire community. Hawkeye-based CV Research Labs was last week awarded the sale of the former North Fayette (NF) school building by the school board for $25,000.

Prior to the school board vote, Superintendent Duane Willhite informed those attending the Monday, Nov. 10, school board meeting that the sale was also supported by the Hawkeye Development Corporation. No patrons of the school district spoke in favor of or against the proposal during the public hearing.

Santa and his elves will help kick off a new event for the holidays in West Union at 10 a.m. Saturday. St. Nick and a few of his favorite helpers will host a Snowball Drop on the Civic Plaza as part of the Main Street West Union-sponsored festivity.

After the miniature snowballs (actually Ping-Pong balls) are dropped from the roof of the Fayette County Courthouse, participants can redeem the “snowballs” at local businesses for special offers or prizes.

The event will include an adult and children’s Snowball Drop. All “snowballs” should be redeemed at participating stores by Friday, Dec. 5.

In addition to hot cider and cookies being served, Santa will remain at the Civic Plaza following the drop to visit with children and their families.
