Locals participate in Corn Cob Nationals

Several local wrestlers competed at the Corn Cob Nationals wrestling tournament Sunday, March 16, in Des Moines. This tournament had 1200 wrestlers representing 13 different states. The top six place-winners in every weight received medals, and the winner received the “Golden Corn Cob.” A group of wrestlers organized a team called the Warrior-Falcons. It was an exciting day to be a Warrior-Falcon. South Winn assistant wrestling coach Jake Everts won his 170 lb. weight class and brought home the “Golden Corn Cob.” Jason Schmelzer finished second at 190 lbs., Lars Warth took third place at 145 lbs. and Matthew Schmelzer brought home fifth place at 215 lbs.
